Tornado? Pah!

I cycle to work every day and this morning, apparently, I cycled through a tornado in Farnborough.
Hard as nails.

Happy Rugby Team, originally uploaded by GraemeF.
As I write they are losing 33-0 to South Africa, but at least the England rugby team managed to give us a smile on the pitch…

How often do you find that an application’s error message just adds insult to injury? You’re already frustrated by being unable to complete the task at hand, and then you’re confronted by some TextWithoutAnySpacesInIt and an obscure stack trace.
Wouldn’t it be better for our users if our .NET exceptions were haiku? Here are some examples.
FileNotFoundException:
How sorry I am
That your file could not be found
Perhaps it was moved?
SocketException:
It is so lonely
When I’m on the Internet
Unable to talk
NullReferenceException:
You were expecting
To reference an object
But there is nothing
And finally InvalidCastException:
What you thought was wine
Was only water
Better luck next time, sucker!

Last night Harry came up with the following joke:
Q: Why didn’t the belly have a button?
A: Because the belly button was in the eyeball of the person.
It reminded me of a joke Declan once told when he was around the same age:
Q: What do you call a chicken with no legs?
A: A handbag.
They both found their jokes hilarious, but I think the rest of us were guilty of laughing at them rather than with them…

I somehow missed the fuss a few years ago, but I’ve just stumbled upon this video of David “Elsewhere” Bernal at Kollaboration 2001. This guy is incredible. He must have muscles on his muscles to have such fine and absolute control of his body. There are a few other videos linked to from Wikipedia, but his debut really does it for me. The reaction of the audience says it all when he gets down to business.
In related “news,” the wife and I are starting dance lessons on Monday, wish me luck!
