HowTo: Play nice with MazzleUI and World of Warcraft 2.2
Tuesday, October 23rd, 2007 @ 8:42 pm | Games
If you don’t play World of Warcraft you might as well skip this post. You were warned…
I’ve been using MazzleUI for a while (see WOW Insider for the reasons you should be using it too!) but ran into problems with the 2.2 patch. Some kind people maintaining this excellent compilation have released a patch, but it wasn’t obvious how to use it. So, here’s how to get a fully functional, easily updated and maintained MazzleUI that works really well with the current version of World of Warcraft!
Note: If you’re at all worried about screwing up your WoW installation then don’t be! Just make sure you keep a backup copy of your Interface and WTF folders and you can easily return to your current UI at any time, with no nasty side effects.
Update (26/10/2007): No longer need to adjust video settings, and the instructions now take care of the AutoBar incompatibility.
Update (28/10/2007): Now guides you through ignoring AutoBar updates and keeping the old MazzleUI version as it is to avoid Mazzifier problems.
Installation
I’d recommend following the instructions even if you’ve installed MazzleUI before - this is how I fixed my UI (which was broken by patch 2.2).
- Download MazzleUI 1.1
- Install MazzleUI - we’re not going to follow all of the instructions included in the archive so I’ve copied the relevant parts here:
- Extract MazzleUI Files:
- Create a directory called “MazzleUI” on the desktop or somewhere else handy.
- Extract the contents of the zip file into the MazzleUI directory
- Save Your Old UI:
- Go to your World of Warcraft directory (usually C:\Program Files\World of Warcraft)
- Rename the “Interface” folder to “Interface Old”
- Open the “WTF” folder and rename the “Account” folder to “Account Old”
- Rename the “Fonts” folder to “Fonts Old”
- Copy over the new UI files
- Drag “Interface” folder from the MazzleUI directory in step 1 to your World of Warcraft directory.
- Drag the “Font” folder from the MazzleUI directory in step 1 to your World of Warcraft directory.
Note: It’ll ask you whether you want to overwrite files. Respond with “Yes to All”.
- Extract MazzleUI Files:
- Download Mazzle UI 1.1 Patch 1
- Extract the Mazzle UI 1.1 Patch 1 archive into your “Interface” folder, replacing all files
- Delete the hidden “.svn” directories which you’ll find inside the following addon folders (if you can’t see them make sure Explorer is configured to show hidden files and folders):
- FuBar_TopScoreFu\.svn
- gfxToggle2\.svn
- Hourglass\.svn
- KingOfTheJungle\.svn
- myBindings2\.svn
- nQuestLog\.svn
- Run WowAceUpdater (instructions here)
- Find “AutoBar” in the Installed section, right-click on it and choose “Ignore AutoBar”
- The next one in the list is “AutoBar Config”, right-click on it and choose “Ignore AutoBar Config”
- Press F10 to update all installed addons
- When finished, close WowAceUpdater and run WoW
- Start World of Warcraft (at last!)
- Log in and choose your realm
- Open the Addons window
- VERY IMPORTANT: Make sure “LOAD OUT OF DATE ADDONS” IS CHECKED
- Log in.
- Wait until a couple of the windows disappear and the MazzleUI installer window appears and greets you. (should take no longer than 30 seconds or so)
- Complete the Mazzifier wizard and enjoy your Mazzlegasm!
- Repeat steps 15 to 17 for each of your characters.
Your Other Favourite Addons
Before deciding that you need all your old addons make sure that MazzleUI doesn’t already include a similar addon that you might like to use instead (MazzleUI includes really good quality addons!). If you do have more addons to install, do it now:
- Hit escape again and exit World of Warcraft.
- Install each addon as you normally would (hint: use WowAceUpdater if it lists your addon!)
- Copy your saved variables for each of those addons from the “WTF Old” folder into the equivalent place in your new “WTF” folder. For many addons you won’t need to bother with this as you can easily reconfigure them or leave them as they are, but you can keep any important data (such as your Auctioneer database) by doing this.
Note: I would avoid replacing any existing files because the Mazzifier will have configured them to work nicely with the rest of your shiny new UI. - That’s it!
Updating
Keeping up-to-date is no bother at all:
- Run the WowAceUpdater regularly, choosing the Update All Addons option (F10)
- Occasionally check for updates to MazzleUI.
- As you level up your characters and get new talents it’s a good idea to run the Mazzifier again to update the action bars.
One further note about AutoBar - once all of your characters have had their Mazzlegasm you can update AutoBar with WowAceUpdater if you want to, BUT you might run into problems later on. To do this, right-click on them and choose “Stop Ignoring AutoBar/AutoBar Config”, then update all installed addons. However, if you need to Mazzify another character at a later date then you will have to replace the AutoBar files with the ones from the MazzleUI archives, but I’ll leave that up to you.

Hello!
Got a question regarding these instructions, after renaming the WTF to WTF Old WowAce will not update modules because of the following error:
Auto-retry of addon list load
Parsing 1056 Entries In The Index File…Error loading addon list Could not find a part of the path ‘C:\Program Files\World of Warcraft\WTF\Config.wtf’.
Should one leave the WTF folder alone?
Should one leave the WTF folder alone?
I took that step from the Mazzle instructions but I have to admit I didn’t follow it myself. A better strategy is to rename the “Account” folder which lives inside the “WTF” folder, leaving the “Config.wtf” file alone. Then you can skip the part where you have to log in and set your video options the way they were before.
I’ve also noticed a problem with Autobar on new characters, but you can avoid that by unchecking it in the “Add-on settings” page of the Mazzifier. You’ll have to configure it yourself afterwards.
I’ll test this again and update the instructions. Thanks!
I have followed your instructions to the T.. I am curious whether you update with or without externals when you run wow ace updater..
Another issue i am running into is: the Mazzifier wizard doesn’t complete it freezes up part way through the process.. I never get my Mazzelgasm :(.. Anyways any tips you could pass along would be greatly appreciated.. have been using mazzle for awhile, just seems like with the last few patches i am having issues..
Thanks for posting this helpful info in the 1st place..
Joe
Hi Joe,
I update without externals, as I don’t mind seeing all of the libraries in the Addons window, and the UI loads a bit faster.
As for your failure to achieve a Mazzlegasm; are you sure you disabled “Autobar” in the “Addon settings” page? If you forget to do that then the Mazzifier will fail in the way you describe.
If so, can you move your pointer to the top-left corner of the screen where the BugSack addon lives on the FuBar. Hover over it and it should tell you which addon failed to configure. Let me know so I can try to help and also update the instructions!
Hi im having a problem with this ui. I follow the instructions exactly like you say but when i click the mazzify button, nothing goes where it should, the buttons all stay in the bottom of my screen, there are other buttons floating around in the middle of my screen, nothing looks pretty like it should. what am i doing wrong?
Hi, please see the “Hi Joe” comment above. I’m hoping someone can give me some more info so I can work out what’s happening.
ZhaoGuangyi got back to me with the info needed - I’ve changed the way AutoBar is installed so if you’re still failing to reach Mazzlegasm have another go.
(AutoBar is now kept at the version shipped with MazzleUI)
Tried doing what you said and i still get the fatality sound when i use this. when i click mazzify me nothing works. the buttons dont get put into the correct spots, things appear all over the screen in wierd places, nothing happens and i keep getting the fatality sound
You’re getting the original “Fatality” sample from BugSack. Are you 100% sure that you followed the instructions from the start? If so, can you send me the errors from BugSack (mouse over the top-left corner of the screen).
I’m getting the same errors everyone else it. I get a “Fatility” mid load screen. Here are the two bugsack errors:
[2007/11/05 14:03:36-2-x1]: Banzai-1.1-34296 (BanzaiLib):111: AceEvent-2.0: Bad argument #3 to `ScheduleRepeatingEvent’ (string, function, or number expected, got nil)

I wouldn’t say everyone else is getting errors - I’m certainly not
I’ll have a fresh go at installation tonight (wife permitting) and see if I run into any problems.
I’ve followed your directions and I’m still get bugsack error’s on the autobar is there away around this
, do i have to use autobar at all or can i delete it out of the addons folder altogether and I would also like to use bartender 3 instead of bongo’s is that possable/
OK after reading a few of the post i got it to work just 1 more question my guilds require groupcalender how do i get this to work with mazzleUI
Your AutoBar error looked like you’d missed out the steps that disable updating AutoBar.
Once you’ve run the Mazzifier you’re free to change what you like, and I suppose you could disable Bongos and install and configure Bartender 3 if you like.
Other addons such as GroupCalendar should “just work” with MazzleUI. See “Your Other Favourite Addons” above.
Sorry I haven’t had a chance to try the install again myself yet.

Ok so is your mazzleUI working
no it still freezes partwaay through BUT i fixed that error (oy) and now i get another error from autobar which i disabled. so its basically ignoring the fact that i disabled it.i put a post about it on the wowinteface website the post is autobar bypass.
Well I daresay we’ll all have problems with the 2.3 patch! I do intend to keep these instructions up-to-date so please do let me know of any steps you took to resolve problems.
It’s very frustrating trying to piece together all of the bits of information from different places just to get it installed. That’s why I’m trying to do it here for everybody!
Well, I have followed all of your instructions and have had problems with dependencies. I fiddled around with it a bit (I’m not quite sure what I did) and I finally got the mazzifier to run. After running however, it froze up and in the bugsack I found at the end the error message:
Aloft-r69497\Modules\CommentText.lua:84: attempt to call method ‘CreateTag’ (a nil value)

And I haven’t been able to go through an entire Mazzlefy yet.
Thanks for you efforts.
Well, I have followed all of your instructions and have had problems with dependencies.
These instructions were for WoW 2.2 and we’re now on 2.4. MazzleUI has now been updated to support 2.4 but I haven’t tried it myself (I’ve been updating myself and have replaced a lot of the addons now).
I would suggest you try the official MazzleUI instructions again, now that they seem to be up-to-date.
