iCommit V3 trailer

Dec 23, 2006 by Graeme in Uncategorized

Rainer has released a teaser for those of us who aren’t Getting Much Done at the moment. Check it out.

Over the last month I’ve been using Tracks, but I’m not happy with it (single biggest problem: not being able to move items between being next actions, ticklers and projects). I’ve also dabbled with TimeTo, Remember The Milk, MyLifeOrganized, Backpack, GTDGmail and a couple of others I forgot about already.

The bottom line is this: iCommit is the most efficient tool around for those who want to Get Things Done at a computer while sticking as closely as possible to Dave Allen’s process. The trouble is it’s not great to look at and doesn’t seem slick. Try something else afterwards though and you’ll see that it was in fact slick, you just didn’t notice :)

It’s very hard to see from the teaser but V3 promises to give a much more rewarding and professional interface. So, bring on “early 2007″… Hmm, that’s only two weeks away! ;)

Three’s X-Series - proper internet access or crappy portal?

Dec 06, 2006 by Graeme in Uncategorized

I have an Orange SPV M5000 (a.k.a. HTC Universal) which I’ve been using with Vodafone for a while. Last week the missus signed up for T-Mobile’s Web & Walk, took her Windows Mobile 2005 device (I forget which one it is, exactly) into the T-Mobile shop where the helpful assistant entered the settings required for internet access. Now she has Windows Messenger, web browsing, and everything else you’d expect. It feels just like WiFi - very nice…

Now… I checked with Vodafone and they have no public plans to launch a similar service, so I looked at the other networks. T-Mobile is no good for me because the coverage is very poor where I work. But then I heard about 3’s X-Series.

I signed up and received a Nokia N73 today. It’s staying in the box because I like my current phone and I assumed I’d be able to connect to the internet with it, but no luck so far. I’ve put the SIM card in and can make calls and send/receive SMS messages. It’s a 3G phone and says I’m connected to UTMS.

I tried setting the access point name to three.co.uk (as mentioned here) and that allows me to visit mobile.three.co.uk, but if I visit anything else I get a message saying I have to use my 3 handset, or that I have to purchase internet time. Not good.

From this point I see 2 possible futures:

  1. I’m just missing the settings I need in order to connect just like the wife does on T-Mobile. Once I have those it works great - I’m happy and gladly pay Three for a fine service. Life is good.
  2. Three’s service turns out to be nothing like T-Mobile’s and isn’t a true internet service. Three want to have control over what I can do (what’s this about a wall?) and I can only visit sites or use services that have their blessing. I return the unopened handset to Three and look elsewhere. T-Mobile get a lot of new customers.

I really hope that it’s the first scenario, but after poking around a bit I fear I’ll have to give up and consider T-Mobile, despite it’s flaws.

I also posted this here where I hope to get an answer!
