Bye bye PIE

Aug 30, 2006 by Graeme in Uncategorized

I’ve used Pocket PC’s for years but it’s been a while since I last looked for an alternative browser to the built-in Pocket Internet Explorer. I’m glad I did.

  • Minimo looks promising but is obviously in the very early stages of development. I had some performance issues on my device.
  • Opera Mobile on the other hand is very much a complete product, and is an enormous improvement over PIE.

As much as I’d love to stick with Mozilla there’s an awful lot of catching up to do. Opera gets my $24 this time around.

DVD piracy

Thought for the day (and one’s plenty):
Why is it that when I buy a DVD I’m forced to watch a 45 second clip telling me not to buy pirated DVD’s every time I put the disc in my player? I bet the pirated copies don’t do that.

7-Zip: it’s not just for zips!

7-Zip is my new favourite toy. The price is right (free!) and it does some extremely handy things like integrate with WinMerge and understand how to get at the contents of Windows Installer MSM and MSI files. Very nice!

I was surprised to find out that a colleague didn’t know about TAB filename completion for the Windows command prompt yesterday. If this is news to you make sure you read this!

Source Server Helps You Kill Bugs Dead In Visual Studio 2005

Anything that helps squash those critters is good news as far as I’m concerned. I actually had my first experience of WinDBG and SOS last week and it looks like it’s going to be very useful… Symbols are good, but source is better!
