It… Just… Works!

Coming from a almost entirely Windows background (well, I did at least hold out until Windows 95) I’ve struggled a bit with a couple of aspects of Ubuntu that I had taken for granted with Windows XP. One of those things is Remote Desktop. I have an old PC that I use as a file server and for other odds and ends, and it’s been without a keyboard, mouse and monitor for a few years now. I recently “upgraded” it to Ubuntu Dapper and it’s been largely a command-line affair since then as I had been utterly unable to get VNC or X working from my laptop.

Enter FreeNX. What can I say? A few lines in bash and I’m back in business! I tell you, this stuff gets easier every day.

It’s been a long time coming, but I’m finally fiddling with Linux. I started dabbling with Ubuntu about a week ago and it’s been a lot of fun. I’ve actually repaved my server with Ubuntu (so long XP!) and I’m now trying to get something like Remote Desktop up and running, at least until I get a bit more comfortable with bash. It’s been a good few years, but I still remember how to work vi! ;)
