I’m currently busy trying to fix all of the broken links etc. following the website changeover. Please add a comment if you find something that’s broken!

Thanks.

It lives!

It’s a lovely sunny day, so I put my iPAQ in the car to dry out. It did the trick!

Now I just have to reinstall everything again.

Sink or swim?

Apr 24, 2004 by Graeme in Uncategorized

Sink. :(

Lynn knocked my iPAQ into a full bath this morning (my fault for leaving it in the bathroom) and it doesn’t look like it’s going to work any more. I’m drying it out in the airing cupboard now.

Downtime

I’ve just set the wheels of change in motion. I’m moving this site to another web hosting service, and I’m also moving from .Text to Drupal.

The effect of this will be that the site will disappear sometime this weekend, but it will hopefully be back early next week. I’m hoping to transfer the content over as well!

Rumours

Apr 22, 2004 by Graeme in Uncategorized

I just heard that, depending on x-rays and getting his jacket fitted on Tuesday next week, James could be home by Friday!

It’s just a rumour, though, so don’t get too excited. I’ll post more on this as and when I hear about it.

Update: The consultant has just been to see James and told him he could be in traction for another 4 weeks, so the above rumour must be untrue! :(

Backchat and cheek - a good sign

Apr 22, 2004 by Graeme in Uncategorized

Lynn writes:

Arrived on Wednesday to find James giving the nurse a load of backchat and cheek but she didn’t seem to mind and everyone on the nursing team said how good it was to have James back to his usual self after being so poorly on Monday/Tuesday.

James and I enjoyed elevenses of latte and pecan Danish and then he spent rest of my visit complaining of crumbs in his bed! Think he just wanted to get one of the female nurses to brush them out for him though.

No visit from the surgical team on Wednesday and as far as I can make out James is doing well though still a fidget arse.

I understand that some of his “skool m8s” are planning to visit on Sunday so can I ask that you contact me first (Sam has my mobile no) just to make sure he is up to the visit and to allow for only 3 visitors at a time and family who are visiting.

Cheers and I really appreciate all the txts, messages on this site and cards you have sent and so does James. As soon as we have a date for James’s homecoming I will let you all know and try to arrange a small “welcome home” party for him to which you will all be invited. He says hope you are all enjoying your French, History, Science etc. while he lies in bed all day with pretty girls in nurses uniforms tending to his every needs!

Right, off to do battle with the M25 to see my hunni (sorry girls he’s mine - LOL!).

On the up

Apr 20, 2004 by Graeme in Uncategorized

I didn’t get to see James today after all - he was too tired again by this evening - but I spoke to him on his mobile and he says he’s going to try to get back into a routine of sleeping at night and being awake during the day. It can’t be easy, though, when there’s only really mealtimes that are affected by the time of day.

Anyway, here’s an update from Lynn:

James was feeling much better today although I couldn’t tempt him with all the goodies I bought in the giant Asda on the A41. I managed to get lost both in Asda and in Denham on the way home.

Back to James, he was more like the boy we know and love with some smiles and jokes for his mum and the nurses. He had lots of txt messages from his friends at school though I am sure mobiles aren’t allowed in the classroom Sam!

James’s neck seems to be mending OK and he will have some more x-rays on Friday this week and these will be discussed at the surgeons meeting on Monday. Hopefully these will show that he is ready for his halo jacket very soon so fingers crossed (not those ankles James!).

James is still suffering some back pain, and it is difficult to find a balance between pain killers which control the pain but don’t cause unwanted side effects but the staff are doing a great job.

More X-Rays

Apr 20, 2004 by Graeme in Uncategorized

James had some more x-rays to make sure everything was OK after he turned over yesterday, and the results were OK. He was still feeling rough last night but was well enough to sleep without his Mum by the bed, so Lynn had a much needed good night’s sleep at home.

I’m going to see him tonight.

Tahiti am byth!

Apr 20, 2004 by Graeme in Uncategorized

Gizmodo:

This 30-foot stainless steel beacon on display in Middlesbrough, U.K., will change its color by receiving text messages sent to a (sadly, not specified) special number. The ‘Spectra-txt’ will receive its first text message from Tahiti, a small tropical island off the coast of Wales.

Umm, Tahiti is in the Pacific Ocean, not too far from New Zeland. Wales isn’t. Perhaps they mean New South Wales? In any case, it’s refreshing to see the words “Wales” and “tropical” in the same sentence.
