Digital camera breakthrough

Feb 21, 2004 by Graeme in Uncategorized

I went into town this afternoon, and saw a big poster in the window of Littlewoods. Apparently they are selling 3.3 million mega pixel cameras!

I was going to take a picture to prove it, but it hardly seemed worth the effort with my puny 4 mega pixel camera. It’s a bit embarrassing really. ;)

Late night Xbox live

Feb 21, 2004 by Graeme in Uncategorized

I had the pleasure of being overtaken by Cory far too many times on Xbox live last night. Project Gotham Racing 2 is a whole lotta fun! I was hosting the game, so we largely kept to the tracks and cars that beginners (like me) are familar with, and we had some really close races. Can’t wait to do that again. :)

I’ve installed Cory’s Xbox Friends Thingee and it’s pretty good. I wonder if there would be some way to plug it into Trillian or something (if not MSN Messenger) rather than copying the UI? That would be even cooler.

I doubt if I’ll be able to stay up late enough tonight for the weekly .NET meet, but at least now I can easily see if anyone’s online a bit earlier :)

More Family Guy news

Feb 20, 2004 by Graeme in Uncategorized

Actually, I’d prefer it to be released straight to DVD; that way I wouldn’t have to wait to see it in the UK!

Cinescape, via Fark: FAMILY GUY creator confirms TV return of Stewie and family. Seth McFarlane says it’s all being negotiated right now.

.Text and posting from NewsGator

Feb 20, 2004 by Graeme in Uncategorized

Hmm, I don’t know which end has the problem, but whenever I post to my blog from NewsGator the resulting entry has the wrong date/time. For example, this post was posted at 3:41pm on 20th February, but it’s showing up as 11:41pm on the 19th Februray.

Must find out why some time…

Sorry, Matt…

Feb 19, 2004 by Graeme in Uncategorized

I’m afraid Matt is going to be a little disappointed. Unfortunately, FetchLinks doesn’t work at all well for feeds whose linked items are located with anchors within a large page. It doesn’t pay any attention to the anchors, and each item will download the entire page.

It may be possible to locate the anchor and discard the other parts of the page, but given how tricky HTML is to parse that’s a non-trivial task. It’s something I will be experimenting with, however, because it’s these pages which let FetchLinks down at the moment. In the meantime, make sure you’re using the latest version so you can switch it off for these problematic feeds.

Matt: Thanks for the great plug and announcement Greg!

Greg also mentions Graeme Foster’s new plugin FetchLinks. I’m just hoping this works for my SlickDeals.net feeds :)

FetchLinks NewsGator plugin 0.1.2.5 released!

Feb 18, 2004 by Graeme in Uncategorized

This new version cunningly avoids the problems the previous versions had. There are some instructions this time, so visit the FetchLinks page!

BTW - I’d appreciate it if, when linking to FetchLinks, you use the url http://graemef.com/fetchlinks - thanks!

FetchLinks improvements

Feb 18, 2004 by Graeme in Uncategorized

Great news! Greg has made some suggestions that will resolve the couple of problems the current version of FetchLinks has. Watch this space!

Notice that there’s now a FetchLinks category on graemef.com, which will contain all new posts to do with FetchLinks (starting with this one). I’ll also be posting an atricle (similar to the PopHeadlines one) which can act as a “FetchLinks homepage,” so people don’t just visit these blog entries and miss out on the latest versions.

Like I said, watch this space!

CRT: RIP

Feb 17, 2004 by Graeme in Uncategorized

If this prediction is accurate, then nobody - and I mean nobody - is going to be spending £1000 for a puny 36 inch standard definition CRT TV this time next year. Is this the final nail in the coffin for CRT?

The Inquirer: Can you afford a 50 inch plasma display? We know we can’t yet. But at the Intel Development Forum this morning, the firm showed off a high definition TV with sources claiming that boxes using its LCOS technology will cost as little as $1800 in the next year.

FetchLinks NewsGator plugiun 0.1.1.4 released

Feb 16, 2004 by Graeme in Uncategorized

This release has a couple of minor bugfixes - one of which means it will no longer empty certain items which would have had content without the plugin… ;)

I’ve had a report that the news page locks up sometimes after installing FetchLinks, I don’t use it myself, but if you run into problems please let me know.

Also, if you find any feeds which don’t work very well please let me know, providing a URL if possible.

Anyway, enough chat, download it!
