“If you are surfing with your browser you all are wasting so much time it isn’t even funny”

Oct 18, 2003 by Graeme in Uncategorized

If you have any doubts about whether or not this whole RSS thing is changing the Internet for good, read this.

BTW, I only subscribed the the Scobleizer a couple of weeks ago; hope I didn’t miss too much :)

InkPositive

Oct 18, 2003 by Graeme in Uncategorized

When shopping for a laptop at the start of this year I was sorely tempted by the first generation of Tablet PC’s. The UI is just fantastic. I can’t imagine how convenient it is for general surfing and so on (never mind the handwriting recognition). There are some pretty compelling apps surfacing now, too.

I hope that in the not-too-distant future every new notebook will come with ink as standard. Forget about funny twisty screens and so on, just about any portable computer could usefully support it, even my big, heavy desktop replacement laptop. I don’t really understand why it has thus far been confined to the ultra-portable models, nor why the price premium is so high.

I want one! And sites like this don’t help! ;)

Scobelizer: Larry O’Brien is starting InkPositive: a website for Tablet PC users. But, look at his tease for the upcoming site. It’s one of the more compelling “under construction” messages I’ve seen.

Eye candy

I wonder if this works on paper? It’s pretty freaky on screen, but to see a piece of paper moving like that would be even stranger.

Steve Maine: A friend of mine at work sent me this link. Go on, take a look. I promise it won’t bite.

Back? Cool. Pretty strange, huh? All that color and movement is enough to make your brain hurt.

Infragistics’ free eBook and Reference App for .NET developers

The Scobleizer:

Jon Box talks up Infragistics’ free eBook and Reference App for .NET developers.

This sample is so extensive I’d say Jon, and everyone else, is entitled to do so. What more could you possibly want?

Danny Ayers has posted a very convincing critique of OPML. Good stuff.

New Bluetake drivers!

Oct 09, 2003 by Graeme in Uncategorized

The good news is that Bluetake appear to be shipping WIDCOMM 1.4 based drivers, adding support for the HID profile to their Bluetooth products.

The bad news is they don’t seem to be available for download. I’ll drop them a line and see if I can get any more information…

Update: No response as of 16/10/2003. I found a screenshot in the downloadable documentation showing the stack to be “WIDCOMM Bluetooth Software 1.4.2 Build 10.”

D3DSpy

Oct 09, 2003 by Graeme in Uncategorized

Wow. I tried D3DSpy when the DirectX 9.0 SDK was first released, and although it looked like it had potential it wasn’t stable enough to be of any real use.

I installed the Summer Update SDK and tried it again. Not only does it work like a charm, it’s helped me track down some nasty leaks which I just couldn’t have found before!

This is a must have tool for any Direct3D work. Brilliant.

Chris Anderson is having problems with his Microsoft Bluetooth adapter. As a MS employee, it will be interesting to see what he can find out!

Compositing Operations

Oct 08, 2003 by Graeme in Uncategorized

There’s an interesting article about compositing (why is it so hard to avoid typing “compost”?) over at vbAccelerator. I never would have found it if it hadn’t been for their new RSS feed!

Belgium? Not at all

A bit more info on the Hitchhikers Guide To The Galaxy film.

There was nothing wrong with the BBC’s special effects; they were so advanced (at the time) that Zaphod’s second head was shown on Tomorrows World!
